When you look at the Acura MDX from the outside, you are not likely to see many differences from the 2013 model, despite the fact Acura is billing it as an all-new model. At 196.4 inches in length the QX60 is definitely the larger of the two, which translates to more room on the inside. The overall look of the QX60 has also not changed much from its predecessor other than to receive a name change. The intent here was that if you have something that works and is highly successful, why would you want to change it?Read more...

"The Infiniti QX60 luxury SUV accelerates with ambition, rounds corners responsively and generally deals with everyday driving situations better than might be expected. Though not herculean, the 2015 QX60's standard 265-horsepower V6 is willing and smooth. The 2014 Acura MDX is proving to be exceptionally popular with families living between Fort Myers and Naples and for good reason. The MDX offers up all the upscale touches that you would expect from a luxury SUV like a sophisticated yet athletic exterior design and an incredibly comfortable and convenient interior that only Acura knows how to put together. It can seat a family of 7 on its three rows and there is plenty of cargo room for all of the kid's essential "stuff" required for a trip to a Naples beach or a Bonita Springs ball field. All these are attributes that an SUV driver looks for in a vehicle but the one characteristic that really sells the MDX is that it's fun to drive.Read more...

IN THE IVIED PRECINCTS of Larchmont and Old Greenwich, there are driveways that must be served. And so, the Infiniti QX60 Hybrid: It’s a mid-to-large luxury crossover, about $60K with its full slew of tech and amenities onboard. This particular vehicle occupies an unusual spot in the luxury segment in that it offers three-row, seven-passenger seating, four hinged doors, all-wheel drive and hybrid efficiency. City/highway mileage: 25/28 mpg.Read more...
It’s true if you look just at the fuel economy number with the QX60 1 mpg better in city, and the MDX 1 better in highway testing, they appear equal. But the Acura requires premium gas, unlike the Infiniti which runs on regular unleaded. So while you may use the same number of gallons in both, those gallons cost more for the MDX. For an even more efficient option, there is a hybrid powertrain QX60, which beats them both in town by 5 mpg and gets the same highway mileage as the MDX.Read more...
Hello, I'm in the market for an Infiniti QX60 but I'm also looking at the Acura 2016 Acura MDX. The comparison for both cars would be all top of the line for both cars. Based on reviews it seems that the Acura beats the QX in hp and driving dynamics. But when it comes to interior luxury and infotainment, I believe that it may go to the QX. The big x-factor for me is the safety. I really like the surround camera that the QX60 has, as well as the reverse auto braking capability. Can anyone also explain any additional safety features that the QX60 may have that the 2016 Acura MDX may not have? Thanks!Read more...

I am looking into selling my Kia Soul and getting an SUV in the future. I don't need something VERY large...so either a small or midsize SUV. So far, I've test driven QX60, which I did really like...but I am worried it is a new model. Also test drove a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee which was my favorite so far. Love the look, how it rides, and the size. Also drove a 2014 Honda Pilot today and it felt too heavy. Any other suggestions? Whatever I get will need to have AWD or 4 wheel drive?Read more...
Cost There are a lot of factors to consider when calculating the overall cost of a vehicle. The main consideration is Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). Whether you pick the Acura MDX or the Infiniti QX60, it's going to cost you about the same. Another consideration is the Destination Charge, which is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle to the dealer from where it's built. In this case, the Acura MDX will cost less to deliver to the dealership than the Infiniti QX60.Read more...

Styling may or may not be perceived as a strong suit. The recent trend in crossover SUV design has been to make a big-box vehicle look like something different: as minimally boxy as possible. To help achieve this goal, the Infiniti design team gave its mid-level SUV a laid-back windshield, curving roofline, and forward-canted rear hatch, set off by a nifty little zigzag in the rearmost roof pillar. The prominent nose, incorporating a chrome double-arc grille, is consistent with Infiniti s current design language.Read more...
The MKT is a common sight among limousine services, but the real luxury is in space. That is where the QX60 shines with a larger interior than the Lincoln. That translates into more third row legroom - overall space for the third row - for carrying a larger crew or your family. A larger fuel tank means a longer distance to cover - even if it means flying out of either Colorado Springs or Denver airport. The MKT may offer more turbochargers optional, we offer a the D irect Response Hybrid connected to a supercharged engine yielding better fuel economy than any MKT. After a spirited romp on a twisty section of Mulholland Highway in the 2014 Acura MDX, 2014 Infiniti QX60 and 2013 Lexus RX 350 F Sport, one of Edmunds' more opinionated editors hopped out of the Acura and pronounced: "Yep, no doubt, the MDX wins this test." If only it was that easy. How these midsize luxury SUVs handle themselves is only one small aspect of this comparison. We still needed to assess long-haul seat comfort, headroom, cargo room, ease of access to the third row, standard active safety features, fuel mileage, stereo quality, etc. The boring stuff maybe, but...Read more...
I would never buy a BMW because my sister had an X5 and it was the worst lemon ever. Always in the shop and always requiring expensive repairs. Our friends just got rid of the 3 year old 5-series for the same reasons. BMWs don't rate very well in terms of reliability. The MDX is a great car and a great value. If those are your three options, I'd go with the MDX. You may also want to check out the Lexus GX 460 and the Infiniti QX60. After considering all these, I'm between the MDX and the Infiniti QX60. As for buy vs. lease, I've also been doing these calculations. You have lower monthly payments with leasing, but it costs considerably more in the long term. You'll notice that the dealerships will try to steer you to leasing because it's a better deal for them. If you plan on keeping your car for at least 5-6 years, buying is definitely the way to go. The only way I'd lease is if you're someone who wants a new car often.Read more...
ubiquitous family hauler, Camry Syndrome affects a fair number of cars and trucks, many of which are exceedingly popular with consumers. The issue I have with these vehicles is that while they're adequate, they lack ambition. Their looks are clean and reasonably attractive, but they're not particularly stylish, let alone adventuresome or - heaven forbid - polarizing. Their interiors are comfortable and well screwed together, with the sort of popular features that consumers expect at a given price point. Their engines are decently powerful and vocal enough to set the heart very slightly aflutter, yet they're not too thirsty. Their transmissions are invisible and their rides are best described with whatever buzzword synonym Joe Consumer might come up with for "sporty" or "luxurious." In short, they're boring. In reality, provided they sell well, there's really nothing wrong with automakers building Camry Syndrome vehicles - they're reasonably competent at everything and clearly meet a need. The problem is that I want some aspects of my vehicle to be better than others, because contrast breeds character. I wish someone atRead more...

) was known as the JX is now the QX60. That decodes to a mid-size, three-row crossover utility with available all-wheel drive. The QX60 shares its underpinnings with the Nissan Pathfinder, and like its less-luxurious counterpart offers a hybrid version. The QX60 has already blazed a new trail for Infiniti, as it's the first three-row vehicle sold by the brand that's not based on truck underpinnings. It also stands out as the only front-wheel-drive-based offering in Infiniti's current lineup. It's squarely in the center of the luxury crossover market, compared to the QX70 (nee FX), which is sportier and less capacious, and the larger, thirstier, truck-based QX80 (which, believe it or not, was previously the QX56). The Infiniti QX60 goes head-to-head not only with the Lexus RX--which doesn't offer a third row--but also theRead more...

That said, the hybrid car does pretty well in the fuel economy department when you consider that it weighs more than two tons. This is not a small car and its pedigree stems from the Nissan Pathfinder, which has been around, in one form or another, for 30 years. (I had a 1996 Pathfinder SE, a rather truck-like SUV, and it slogged through so many New England winters that it got used to harsh weather. It has migrated north to Montreal where it now has more than 200,000 miles on the clock and faithfully carts stepdaughter and her family through those Canadian winters.)Read more...
It depends.  Both vehicles are rated extremely close when it comes to fuel consumption.  The QX60 is slightly higher in the city with 19 mpg (compared to the Acura’s 18). However, when it comes to the highway, Acura trumps the Infiniti with their rating of 27 mpg, versus the QX60’s 25.  Overall, the average of the MDX’s fuel economy is much better, with 24.5 compared to the Infiniti’s 20.3 mpg average.Read more...

At the same time that there is no shortage of technology aboard an Infiniti QX60, there actually is. For example, the subscription-based Infiniti Connection service does not provide Wi-Fi Internet access for the QX60. The rear seat has no quick-charge USB port… heck, there aren’t any USB ports back there, and the one for the front seat is inconveniently located in the center console. You can’t plug in a laptop, either, as a 110-volt electrical outlet is absent. Oh sure, you get Infiniti InTouch Apps, which allows you to access specific smartphone applications right from the touchscreen infotainment system, but that’s not the same thing as Wi-Fi. While Infiniti is working on rectifying this situation, it might as well get the QX60 prepped for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, too. Starting in 2016, those will be the new must-have standards. In order to get Infiniti Connection and InTouch Apps, the Premium Plus option package is required, which itself requires the purchase of the Premium option package. Combined, they bump the price QX60’s price tag to $47,945. Along for the ride are Bluetooth streaming audio capability, voice-recognition technology, a hard-drive navigation system, and a premium sound system. Pairing my smartphone via Bluetooth seemed unnecessarily complex in terms of the number of steps required, but was easy enough to do. Making calls, accessing music playlists, and streaming Pandora also proved easy. Better yet, one of my favorite things about the control layout is that the radio has knobs and buttons for power, volume, tuning, and station pre-sets. The climate system is also separated from the dashboard’s touchscreen, so once the QX60’s driver has everything set up to his or her preferences—and Infiniti provides numerous ways to program the on-board technologies—interaction with the screen is minimalized. In my book, that counts as true luxury.Read more...
Hello! The wife and I are about to start a family, we have two large dogs and plan to have two children. In the next bit we will be looking to get a slightly used modern crossover. Safety, reliability, space and comfort/luxury are important to us, and it will be my wife's commuter car (I drive a 2010 Maxima Sport). I like performance but wonder how important it really is in this kind of vehicle. Based on my initial research these were my opinions: Highlander: Most reliable, high resale value, not very luxurious, doesn't have the high end safety features like auto-braking, etc. NO HIDs/LEDs (this is a safety thing for spotting wildlife here in Edmonton and surrounding region). Will probably cost as much used as the Infiniti. Acura MDX: Great powertrain and performance, but does it really matter for a vehicle for this purpose? Most expensive to get all the high tech safety features as they are only available on the Elite package. Not as luxurious as the price would suggest. Worried about rougher ride for road trips. Very reliable. Infiniti QX60: Very luxurious, smooth ride, unsure about reliability, best safety features of the group and ability to get the majority of the safety features with only a $3500 package above base price (intelligent brake assist, distance control assist, back up collision intervention, intelligent cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, around view monitor, etc.). Performance not as good as MDX and Highlander. Lexus RX350: Very luxurious and reliable, no 7 seats but those are really just for dogs anyway. Behind on the safety technology. Can only tow 3500lb compared to 5000 for others. Based on a utilitarian perspective it seems like the QX60 would probably win out based on value for the price. I love the CVT in my Maxima but I heard about problems in the Pathfinder CVTs so that could be an issue for the QX60 right? Are there other options I should be looking at? Thanks!Read more...
1) The Enclave's third row seats are very small and can only fit small sized adults or kids. This is one category where some of the Enclave's competitors like the Ford Flex come out on top. 2) The Enclave has a couple unnecessary aesthetic additions. A C-pillar divides the vehicle's glass and serves as a blemish on an otherwise attractive exterior. Also, the hood has ventiports that don't serve a purpose except to make the Enclave a bit more expensive. 3) The Enclave lacks the option of an 8 cylinder or turbocharged engine. Its reliance on a 3.6 liter six cylinder engine with 288 horses is part of the Enclave's family friendly ethos. So, anyone looking for a revved up, sporty ride from their large crossover will have to look elsewhere. 4) The Enclave is affordable but it certainly isn't cheap. Families on tight budgets might want to consider a bare bones Enclave without all the bells and whistles in order to keep it under the $40,000 mark. 5) Although the Enclave seats up to 8 people, its fuel efficiency isn't that great. It averages 17 mpg in cities and 24 on highways. This is comparable to competitors like the Ford Flex but there are crossovers that are a bit smaller (5 seaters) like the Mazda CX-5 that will hit the 30 mpg mark. Yet they won't hold those extra 3 passengers like the Enclave can. Conclusion The Buick Enclave is a serious competitor in the family size crossover field. While it will cost a pretty penny, it is definitely worth it, considering that many of its competitors are priced higher while offering similar features. It has an amazing amount of passenger and cargo space without compromising ride quality and vehicle responsiveness. This year's Enclave is the entire package and a large one at that.Read more...
in front-wheel-drive form, a new offering for the 2014 model year. The previous two generations were only available with all-wheel drive -- surely makes sense for people living in areas that experience real winters, but maybe not so much for those residing down south or in the southwest. So here's the front-wheel drive MDX, weighing in at 234 pounds less than its SH-AWD counterpart and costing $2,000 less. Oh, and EPA fuel economy figures are a little better at 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, compared to 18 city and 27 highway for the SH-AWD.Read more...
The perforated Milano leather is like heaven for your butt and spine, as they are soft, supple and do not hold heat on a hot Florida afternoon. That, my friends, was my husband's first thought after we found out we were expecting baby number three. Okay, that's probably a lie. I'd like to think that his first thought was, "my wife is so amazing, she's carrying our third baby and there's nothing more sexy in the entire universe" or something along those lines. It was his second thought though, I am sure, a thought that he very audibly shared with me, the minute we climbed back into the car after that life-changing doctor's appointment. "We're going to need a bigger car." He's right. And quite practical. We do need a bigger car and I can feel myself practically teetering on the verge of minivan-dom. Not exactly somewhere I thought I would see myself at just thirty years old. You see, when you become a Mom, you're quick to embrace all things Mom-like. Whether you like it or not, you're more often than not sporting the Mom-Hair while dressed in your Mom-iform with that look of sheer exhaustion on your face, signaling that you are, in fact, a Mombie (mom + zombie). At the same time, however, you find yourself clinging formidably to bits and pieces of your hip, trendy, former well-rested, better dressed, kid-less self. For me, part of that former self is trying to cling, albeit with white knuckles, to driving around in a "cool car." Now, don't get me wrong, there are some pretty bad-ass minivans out there. They're just not for me and I know it's only a matter of months before I find myself walking intoRead more...

The RDX may have supplanted the MDX as Acura s best-selling model, but Acura hopes to put the their mid-sized crossover back on top with the all-new 2014 MDX. To show us how they plan to do that, Acura invited us to Oregon to sample the new MDX for a day around Newberg. Even without the snazzy trip it s easy to see that regaining the Acura sales crown shouldn t be difficult. After all, the current MDX is Acura s second best-selling vehicle and despite being seven years old (ancient in the auto biz) the MDX is still the best-selling 7-seat luxury SUV in America and the second best-selling mid-sized SUV/crossover period. How does one redesign success? Carefully.Read more...

For 2016, the biggest change is the new nine-speed automatic transmission, replacing the six-speed automatic of the last two years. Is a nine-speed a good thing? Will this get me down the road more efficiently? Not sure about that. Fuel economy didn’t improve markedly with the addition of three more gears (the 2015 all-wheel-drive MDX got 18/27 mpg, city/highway; the same car in a 2016 model gets 19/26 mpg city/highway. The caveat is that the 2016 car has the variable cylinder management system, which kills the engine while you’re waiting for the light to change, then starts it back up when you turn the wheel or lift your foot off the brake. I found it kind of distracting – start, stop, start, stop.)Read more...
