Acura Tsx Oil Consumption Problem

Read about this: Acura Tsx Oil Consumption Problem

I remember reading that honda considers that amount of oil consumption "within specification" but I think it's excessive since the most my 04 engine consumed was about 1L/6K KM. Now it pretty much doesn't consume any oil after switching from mobil 1 to castrol syntec. Did you make sure the oil filter and drain plug are tight? Also, you should be able to tell if the engine is burning oil by looking at the spark plugs. Do a leak down test to further narrow down where the oil is going. BTW, how hard do you drive normally? cause that can also affect oil consumption...Read more...
I had an 04 si that burned about 2 qaurts between oil changes, i would just check the oil level every now and then. I beat the hell out of that si everyday and sold it running great with 80,000 miles on it. Im an acura tech and i have seen very few k24 replaced but if you feel this oil consumption is out of control have you tried talkng to the dpsm about acura helping with a new short block. If your car is or was serviced at the dealer acura might help you out.Read more...
I dont know how far you are from Fredericksburg, VA, USA but it sounds like HatchVX is the guy to go to for a new engine. If his shop has done 9 k24's.. That means whoever they talk to for warranty, extended warranty, goodwill, or whatever is getting them done. Might be worth a trip. Could also make for the perfect time to document your actual oil consumption with reciepts and photos. Be prepared..Read more...
2010 TL 6 MT burns oil. 1 quart per 1,100 miles so far. Just starting the infamous Acura oil consumption test today. I have owned multiple Hondas over many years and NEVER had such an issue. I know the Acura stance: One quart per 1,000 miles is acceptable. Yeah, I hear you Acura. The rest of the automotive world is watching and shaking their collective heads. Acceptable? Only if you are trying to hide and cover up a problem with the cylinder wall design. Normal? Not hardly. I am disappointed. Maybe Acura will do the right thing here. My experience tells me otherwise.Read more...
Hi all, I've been dealing with my 2010 TSX with the I4 engine burning oil for the last year and a half now. I cannot make it to 5k miles without a low oil light (the light normally goes on at 3k-3.5k.) Honda/Acura is being super douchey and saying they won't deal with it until it's burning 1qt every 1k miles. Now, there's a TSB out on the 2010 TSX manual trasmission that indicates the cylinder walls can get scratched and cause exactly my problem - oil burn. But I'm in an automatic, so Honda won't help me. I've considered going to a local japanese auto shop to have them crack the engine open to examine it at my cost (unless there are scratches, then I'd bill Acura for the work and demand they start giving me free oil changes for the next couple years...) but this seems like a step I shouldn't have to take....and if I'm wrong and the cylinder walls aren't scratched, it's at my expense. Any thoughts? What should I do?Read more...
